Lemmy is a pig who was born on a farm.
Because of the terrible conditions in which mother pigs are forced to have their children in these places, Lemmy suffered a serious leg injury when he was just days old.
Like so many other pigs deemed “useless” by the farming industry, little Lemmy would have soon been killed in the most brutal manner – by being thrown against a wall. Thankfully, before this could happen, a kind person crossed Lemmy’s path. Despite the fact that there seemed to be little hope that Lemmy would make a full recovery, this person took him to their home and began to nurse him back to health. They contacted us soon afterwards to see if we could offer little Lemmy the long-term care and forever home that he needed.
Lemmy is missing half of one ear, as a result of his identification tag being ripped out without a second thought by the farmer. He also suffers from a congenital disease which has made him blind in one eye.
Despite the challenges that he has faced, when Lemmy arrived, he was just like any other baby. A piglet who loved the company of people and would cry when left alone. He would follow us happily and innocently around the sanctuary, waiting patiently for an opportunity to ask us for a moment of our time to give him a belly rub.
It is terrible to think that millions like him, just as sweet and sensitive as Lemmy, with the same emotional world full of hope which is violently cut short in crowded farms and bloody slaughterhouses.
